what does it mean to talk story?

“Talk story” is a cherished term rooted in Hawai’i Creole English (also known as ‘pidgin’). It is the culmination of diverse influences coming together to build community and connection through a common language.

Growing up in Hawai’i, “Let’s talk story” was a phrase I heard often to invite others to sit down, relax, and chat about whatever was on their mind.

life can get heavy.

Sometimes we just need some help in carrying the weight.

Like a good workout routine, therapy can help us build the “mental muscles” we need to break free from unconscious and conscious cycles, empower us to make choices that are aligned with our values, and remove the doubts and fears that often hold us back from reaching our goals.

While I may sneak in some clinical terminology from time to time, I’m not big on sterile and /or clinical therapy experiences. Transformative realizations often happen during natural conversations, and I want you to feel free to “talk story” in a way that feels safe and authentic for you.

If you’re curious about my methods however, I typically utilize a variety of techniques based on my client’s needs including Cognitive Behavioral (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment (ACT), and Dialectic Behavioral (DBT) as well as Motivational Interviewing, and person-centered approaches.

meet your therapist

Hi! I’m Natasha, a Licensed Mental Health Associate operating in Washington State.

My mission is to meet you where you are in your healing journey, and to do my part in building the necessary rapport for us to do our best work, together.

At the heart of my practice are values of empowerment, compassion, and challenging limiting beliefs. I am dedicated to helping clients reclaim their power, silence their inner critic, and rewrite narratives tainted by imposter syndrome, negative self-talk, and external expectations.

the tldr;

Whether you’re a corporate baddie, bomb ass entrepreneur, seeking a new direction, or navigating a transitional period of your life…
I want you to know that you are so much more than the issues you bring to therapy.

I’m eager to learn about your world as it is now, and how you would like to see it improve.

now that we have me out of the way, let’s talk about you!

you’re someone who
*essentially*
has their shit together.

In fact you’re really dope, yet you don’t always feel it.

Somewhere down the line, you were led to believe that your
achievements = your self worth.

Lately the pressure to perform has left you exhausted, perhaps prone to procrastination, and the cycle of shame and negative self talk makes simple mistakes feel catastrophic.

Struggling to balance the weight of the world has got you feeling, well…

like a duck.

calm on the surface, but a
little chaotic
underwater.

I like this analogy because it adds a bit of levity to a very real and frustrating experience.

To others it may seem like you have it all figured out, but below the surface you’re struggling to keep your head above the rough waters of worry.

Anxiety, doubt, fear, and shame are all a part of the human experience, but when those feelings continue to grow, it can make you feel like you’re fighting against the riptide 24/7.

You’re good at being there for others, but when it comes to yourself…

it’s hard to implement self care that sticks.

heres the thing,

no one gets through this world alone.

Everyone deserves help, even bomb ass humans like you.
And guess what, super cool therapists (like me!) need therapy too!

There is no sliding scale that one must use to decide if their problems are *big enough* to warrant an investment in yourself. The fact that you’re here means you’re looking for meaningful and sustainable change.

I’m just proud of you for showing up for you.

My goal here is never to “fix you” but to aid you in understanding that your thoughts aren’t always your truths. I want to help you untangle who you are at your core, so you can break through the barriers that hold you back from your hopes, dreams, and happiness.
